The Esoteric MagneDrive System (Patent: JP6501130) is a non-contact, magnetically induced turntable drive system.
In order to achieve our goal of reproducing master-quality sound from a vinyl playback system, Esoteric devoted more than five years from the start of the project to the patent acquisition and commercialization of the MagneDrive system.

A “Magnetic Driver” is mounted on the top of the drive motor. The side of the Magnetic Driver is a dome-shaped magnet with alternating S and N poles. The platter is made of non-magnetic aluminum, but a soft iron “Induction Wheel” surrounds the lower part of the platter side, positioned in close proximity to the Magnetic Driver mounted on the motor assembly. As the Magnetic Driver rotates, the platter rotates synchronously with the induced magnetic force applied to the Induction Wheel. Because this induction mechanism operates without direct physical contact, the platter remains isolated from motor-borne vibration and rumble.

Extremely Quiet Rotation
For vinyl record playback, which picks up vibrations from record grooves on the order of microns and converts them into audio signals, the elimination of vibrations generated by motors is essential to achieving true master-quality sound reproduction.

The Esoteric MagneDrive System revolutionizes this aspect by employing a noncontact power transmission mechanism between the motor and the platter. This innovative design eliminates motor-generated vibrations entirely, allowing for an ultra-silent, “rumble-free” rotation and delivering crystal-clear audio that preserves the purity of every note.

The T-01 features a meticulously crafted 13kg high-mass platter, precision-machined from a solid aluminum block. This heavy-duty design is enhanced by the innovative “Magne-Float System”, which reduces the effective bearing load to approximately 5.5kg. To further enhance stability, the platter incorporates inverted bearings that position the fulcrum closer to the vinyl surface. The platter’s surface is a masterpiece in itself. A Motor Unit Incorporating the Best of Esoteric Technology
The T-01 features a chassis-integrated MagneDrive System motor unit, eliminating the need for the time-consuming setup process using specialized jigs required by the Grandioso T1 and making installation much easier.
To maximize the quiet operation of the Esoteric MagneDrive System, the motor assembly incorporates a dedicated ‘Vibration Absorber Case’ designed to minimize the transmission of unwanted vibration to the chassis, preserving the purity of vinyl playback.

Motor Unit Featuring a “Vibration Absorber Case”
The motor itself is suspended from a ring-shaped support bracket via anti-vibration rubber washers preventing motor-generated vibrations from being transmitted to the surrounding structure.
The bracket is secured to a heavy-duty, precision-machined, dual-layer brass base (forming the main body of the ‘Vibration Absorber Case’) where residual vibrations are effectively absorbed and controlled. The motor assembly, housed within this anti-vibration case, rests on an aluminum base under its own weight. The strategic combination of dissimilar materials helps disperse and suppress vibration modes across a wider frequency range. The aluminum base is designed with special laser-cut slits that disperse vibration modes into finer frequencies.

Master Sound Discrete Clock Circuit
The motor driver circuit incorporates a high-precision 10 MHz master clock to accurately generate the drive waveform that powers the motor. The clock circuit utilizes our proprietary Master Sound Discrete Clock technology to ensure high precision.

10MHz Master Clock Sync Capability
The motor unit of the T-01 is engineered for the highest level of rotational precision, featuring an external 10MHz clock input. By connecting the external Master Clock Generator (sold separately), you can elevate sound quality even further. Japanese high-end audio manufacturer, Esoteric, has launched a new turntable, the T-01, which includes a contactless magnetic drive system for “uncompromising precision, energy, and realism”.

The T-01 turntable costs £41,999 / $50,000 and includes features from the company’s flagship record player, the Grandioso T1, such as a triple-layer aluminium and MDF cabinet construction and 10MHz external clock synchronisation. The turntable’s clock sync is compatible with the G-01XD and G-05 Master Clock, too.

The turntable also features a Magne-Float platter, which uses magnetic repulsion to reduce the effective mass of the platter from 13kg to 4kg, thereby minimising spindle bearing friction.
